Gorillapod by Joby
Fun and games with this week’s recording. Listen in for the details.
Shutters Inc now has its very own domain name… woohoo! Bookmark shuttersincpodcast to only receive posts from which relate to Shutters Inc. How cool is that?
Shelton and Bruce talk about the Gorillapod Original (that’s the little one), Shelton answers a couple of listener e-mails, and then dishes out his top 10 tips for getting correct exposure…

01. Grey card (such as the Lastolite Ezy Balance, available in Australia from Kayell)
02. Histogram
03. Watch the background
04. Watch for highlights
05. Spot metering
06. + or – 2 stops
07. Meter for the highlights
08. Filters
09. Reflectors or fill-flash
10. What is CORRECT exposure anyway?

Print these out and stick ’em in your camera bag!!

Shelton has again shared some of his photography with us. Check these out for creative metering.

Tzee Yoong’s photo from the Silk Road, as mentioned by Shelton.

Also, after recording this episode, I took Cath and Max up to Newcastle (2 hours drive north of Sydney) to see the Pasha Bulker, a freighter which has run aground on Nobby’s Beach. Check out some of the shots.

Hi all,
Just wondering… is anyone else seeing an empty feed in iTunes (for Shutters Inc)?
When I look in iTunes, I’m seeing a valid feed for SI, but no items in that feed.
If you’re also seeing nothing in the feed, would you mind dropping me an e-mail please?

Hello, testing, testing, is this thing on?

Filed under: Shutters Inc — Bruce Williams @ 8:56

Hi all,

Seems there are one or two bugs still running round giving the RSS feed some grief.
I’ve employed an entire army of code monkeys to find the…
oh, ok, 5 guys to…
(blush) alright, one guy… and he’s doin’ it for free…
but trust me, we’ll get this thing sorted.
No really, we will!
Hang in there.

Anyone having dramas?

Filed under: Shutters Inc — Bruce Williams @ 23:55

It has been brought to my attention that there might be a slight problem with some browsers not parsing the RSS feeds correctly.

Now, while it may seem obvious that if anyone was having problems with the feed, they wouldn’t be reading this…. I just want to throw this out there, JUST IN CASE! Perhaps people having problems with the feed have come to the site, and if that’s the case, hopefully they’ll see this post.

So, if you are experiencing any dramas with the new system, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Just drop me a quick e-mail and say “Dude, it’s all busted-like!”

THAT banner

Filed under: Shutters Inc — Bruce Williams @ 23:09

…is gone!

Quite a few people have commented today about how hard it was to read the links on the Home Recording Network banner, because of the dark blue text on the maroon background.

And I agree.

And because that banner is not something I created (it was an external link), I’m removing it until such times as I can work out how to get the colour changed dynamically. If anyone knows how that could be done, or thinks they might be able to help, please drop me an e-mail at

“Hard Road Home” available now

Listeners to “Building The Pod” will have heard me mention (on numerous occasions) my involvement with the recording, mixing and mastering of Dave Garner’s music.

Well, after a mere 3 years (Ye Gods… aren’t you glad you weren’t waiting on a heart transplant?), Dave’s new album “Hard Road Home” is available now.

Hard Road Home

You can check out some samples from the album at Dave’s MySpace page, and you can order a copy from Dave’s site and pay with complete confidence through PayPal.

Musically, the album is a little bit of Bruce Springsteen, John Hiatt, Steve Earle, Melissa Etheridge and Lucinda Williams… you kinda get the idea? Rock/country crossover.

Both Dave and I are very happy with the way this has turned out. For those interested in the technical side, the whole thing (live drums and all) was recorded in my house, straight into Adobe Audition (first in v1.5, later in v2.0). It was then mixed and mastered entirely in Audition v2.0 (with a few plugins for good measure!).

End of plug.

When you go to click on a Category tag over there –>
on the right hand side, just be sure you click under Category and not (like I’ve done a few times!) , under the RSS Feeds heading!

And now, the acid test

Well, hopefully, this podcast will make it to all channels.
