Shutters Inc – episode 233

This week, Bruce is having bandwidth issues (due to a certain son’s Xbox addiction),
the ‘Thirty seconds to infinity’ facebook page is getting more likes than the Shutters Inc facebook page (we need to correct THAT!),
the wedding driver who wouldn’t drive,
Nikon and Canon are rethinking the mirrorless market,
the Canon Powershot N, with a dedicated facebook button, but only available direct from Canon USA,
Sony’s soon-to-be-released QX100, a lens-and-sensor-in-one for attaching to a smartphone (and it seems that the manual for it has now leaked as well),
Also, it appears that Sony is exploring the rotating-sensor idea we discussed last week,
I received another hdr tip from Adam Davidson, although Glynn was not impressed by it,
Adam also alerted us to the LED light cube which looks VERY interesting,
David Duchemin is giving away free copies of his e-book, “Ten” (subtitled “Ten Ways To Improve Your Craft. None of Them Involves Buying Gear.”) Grab it while you can!
Samsung slightly red-faced after giving the winning prize in their photo comp to a stolen image,
and the less-than-stellar first pics of Prince George.

Shutters Inc – episode 232

This week, in my never-ending quest to discover how to do HDR PROPERLY, I’ve been watching this video training tutorial on lynda.com,
Of course, if you want to use HDR-Efex Pro rather than Photoshop for your HDR work, then you could also check out Getting Started, or Up and Running,
Glynn likes Sturgeon’s Law and believes it could also be applied to HDR,
we’re wondering… Where are the self portraits?
which led to a discussion of 52 week self portrait assignments,
Glynn’s U.S. workshops are back on (check CPW for more details),
Carl Hemmings wrote about L brackets for shooting panoramas,
which led to a discussion of shooting panos in portrait vs landscape orientation,
Glynn has an idea for DSLR bodies with rotating sensors,
Glynn has started a new Facebook page called 30 seconds to infinity,
David Jones talked about sd-to-cf adaptors, and how that would enable me (and Glynn) to shoot with our CF-native cameras, but still get the benefits of the Eye-Fi cards,
after last week’s effort of trolling the film vs digital debate, this week Glynn got into the brand wars,
I decided that a good way to get over gear lust would be to spend a week with the DSLR body you were using BEFORE your current one,
Glynn liked this blog post on lensrentals.com regarding which lenses fail the most,
through the week, I saw this post on Chase Jarvis’ blog regarding the Red Bull athletes,
I also stumbled across this personal project/series of Fallen Princesses,
Glynn discussed models and their attitudes,
as well as opening fire on the author of this book,
and finally, I’ve been getting my geek on watching this video on youtube which describes the math behind f-stop numbers.

Computer woes

If you’re sitting there patiently waiting for episode 232, I thank you.
However, if you’re not on Facebook, you wouldn’t have seen the message I put up last night advising that I went to fire up this computer yesterday afternoon so that I could edit and mix this week’s episode, only to find that the power supply had died, and there was no computer action to be had!
Now, it’s Sunday afternoon.
This morning, I went a-searchin’ for a computer store that was actually open on a Sunday (they are few and far between)… and actually found one!
So, new power supply acquired…. check.
New power supply installed…. check.
Machine back up and running…. check.
So, once this advisory is posted, I can get to editing and mixing, and hopefully within a couple of hours, episode #232 will up and ready for you to download.
Apologies for the delay!

Shutters Inc – episode 231

This week, Bruce’s first attempt at light painting (not entirely successful), prompted Glynn to remind us of the work of Eric Curry,
Glynn has been prolific and blogged twice this week!
Bruce was impressed by the setting of Sean Parker’s Tolkien-inspired wedding,
(link #1, link #2),
Greg Anderson wrote to us to discuss HDR and a clever way to slowly build up keywords for all your old images in Lightroom,
Glynn has been trolling on the interwebz, starting a flame war with long time listener Dean Jones over film vs digital,
Bruce found this story about another photographer who decided to travel with a Nexus tablet/dongle combination rather than a laptop,
Glynn and Mike Hollman WERE going to run some workshops together in the U.S. later this year, but that’s had to be put on hold,
and while we’re speaking of Mike “Smaug” Hollman, congratulations on all those awards at the NZIPP Awards,
After much planning, Glynn is finally heading off to India in November, where he will get to witness the Diwali Festival,
we discuss L brackets, commonly used in panoramic photography, including Really Right Stuff,
Glynn will be speaking at PMA in Melbourne on the 14th and 15th of September,
and after a suggestion on the Facebook page, we’re having our first listener photography project. By Tuesday (if possible), we’d like to see your best self portrait posted on the Shutters Inc facebook page!

Shutters Inc – episode 230

This week, Carl Hemmings was impressed with this hybrid Black Rapid/Arca-Swiss safety solution for your gear,
Glynn liked a new meaning for HDR, plus the dedicated HDR software called Float, from Unified Color,
In Australia this week, we saw Pixie Photo go belly-up,
we discuss Adam Davidson’s boat pics,
Never Wet, an amazing spray-on product that repels water,
Luxi, (youtube video here) a Kickstarter project currently seeking funding for a light meter attachment for your iPhone (they’ve obviously not heard of Android),
Glynn got a firmware upgrade to his Fuji XPro1 and found that the focus (discussed last week) is now much-improved,
the Ballarat Courier Newspaper is actually hiring MORE journalists and photographers,
we discuss shooting funerals and the recently deceased,
should you even take a camera with you on holidays?,
and Bruce’s new business idea.
