Episode 423 – The Putzier Experiment

We is back for another year! πŸ™‚
Woohoo!
We talk about my cruise to the Coral Isles, and the sad reality that most of the coral we saw was already dead.
I thought it was due to too much tourism. Glynn is of the opinion that it’s due to coral bleaching and rising sea temperatures. He talked about his friend Victor Bonito, who is doing work in this area. He also talked about the documentary, “Chasing coral” on Netflix. Watch the trailer here.

Then, we talk about my new camera! Yep, finally, after 9 years of shooting with my a850, it’s been retired in favour of a new Sony a7iii, and 3 new FE lenses.
A Laowa 15/f2 manual focus wide angle,
A Tamron 28-75/f2.8 medium zoom, and
A Sony 70-200/f4 (still not here).

Carl sent us a couple of great portfolios of images to check out.
Photographer spends 10 years tracking down the original locations of vinyl covers,
and this collection of gorgeous images of freshwater animals.

David Putzier wrote in to say he’s loving the podcast.

Steve Peters sent us a link to the (Japanese) Tamron site which features the work of some schmuck by the name of Glynn Lavender. πŸ™‚
Also, this story on the future of computational photography.

And this Facebook video of a guy who has mounted his camera on the stock of a rifle. Makes sense when ya think about it!

Adam sent us a few stories over the break.
This portfolio of images from the early 1900’s.
Sharp is making the first 8k mirrorless camera priced under $5,000.
Photoshop fail gives Australian prime minister two left feet.
Man’s $1,998 Camera Fried by Self-Driving Car Laser.
And this story of how an elaborate international scam is making the rounds among instagrammers and photographers.

And yes, Glynn would love to hear more from you, the listener!

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.
