The state of play…

The short story.

No podcasts at all this week.

The long story.

I had an Adobe e-Seminar to conduct on Friday, so imagine my absolute horror on Tuesday night to realise that a piece of software I had installed had brought with it some malware which blocked me from logging in to Windows!
Aaarrrrgggghhhh!
Couldn’t even log in as Administrator!
Totally hosed my system.
Oh joy.
Of all the weeks for this to happen.
So, a couple of late nights ensued while I tried to get into Windows, because I knew that I needed to be able to de-activate my copy of Audition before I could reformat the machine.
To reformat without deactivating the software would mean losing my license, and obviously, that was not a viable outcome.
So, Thursday night, I finally made some headway with it, and got my system back on line.
Then, Friday morning, I found I couldn’t log into to the Adobe Connect server (the software/interface that we use to conduct the e-Seminars).
By this stage, I was starting to believe that the Gods did not want me conducting this e-Seminar!
Finally got it all sorted with about 30 minutes to spare!
Nothing like taking it right down to the wire!
🙂

So, as a result of all that “fun”, podcasts were relegated to the back burner for the week.
My apologies.
Let’s hope this week coming is a little less stressful!

Bruce Williams

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.

    Hi Bruce,

I’m a long-time listener, and I know that you’ve used Windows for a long time, but I really think it’s about time you give the Mac a try. I don’t mean for this to be snide or condescending, but really… the time has come. Ditch the lousy Microsoft crap, and come on over to the greener pastures. It’s worth it. I promise.

I am a long time listener and Mac user as well, but I don’t know if a switch to Mac is the best solution. I know that Bruce is a big Audition user, and Audition isn’t available on the Mac. This would mean not only a new OS, but a new DAW, and probably new interfaces, plug-ins, etc…
For a working engineer a studio wide system change can be a huge undertaking and can result in many lost hours.
    As for Audition…
If it is anything like the registration for the Adobe CS3 package, you can have 2 installs licensed at a time, so you might have been able to reinstall, or perhaps cancel the second install and use it on the reinstall. Optionally, the CS3 software works for a month in Evaluation mode.
Glad you got it resolved though.

    That’s exactly right, Leon!
Audition ISN’T Mac compatible, and switching OS would mean switching DAW.
And while there are plenty of great audio apps on the Mac, I’m not ready to make that switch just yet!
    Cheers,
    Bruce.
