The studio move – part 2

The room I'm moving my studio into.
The room I'm moving my studio into.

This picture was taken a month or so ago.
Yes, Max’s mess is evident.
The room is however starting to take shape now.
I had Paul Barker (electrician, and coincidentally, Dave’s drummer) come over today and we ran cables back and forth across the top of the house through the roof cavity (in 35C/95F heat, no less!). It was VERY hot up there.
Still, I’m really happy with the progress we made for a day’s work.
On Thursday, I have a builder coming in who’s going to hang the clouds for me.
After that, it’s likely that nothing more will be done until Sunday.
Hopefully, we’ll get the computers relocated then.
That’s going to be a big job, and should see the room start to fulfill its new role, even if all the acoustic treatment is not finished.
I am hoping (not sure how ambitious this expectation is just yet) that the remaining acoustic treatment will be done next week.
If that plan comes to fruition, I should be producing podcasts again in the last week of January!
Keep those fingers crossed folks!

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.

I envy your roof cavity. We have cathedral ceilings and slab foundation (i.e. no crawl space) so when our roof was being replaced we had to place all the audio/video/ethernet cable we thought we might ever need between the foam insulation and ceiling boards. They all join together in one enormous mass of cables and drop down through a hole the size of a bowling ball into the “server closet” (former hall closet). At least we’ve managed to avoid having cable trays throughout the house. For now.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I was kind of curious how it was going, but I didn’t want to slow you down by asking.

Can’t wait to “hear” the after effects. Right now, the room “looks” a little reverberant.
