Episode 474 – A chat with John Swainston

This week, Glynn and I catch up for a chat with Australian photo industry stalwart, John Swainston.
John’s career spans more than 5 decades, in which time he’s seen some things come and go!
He’s been President of the AIPP, and for many years, ran the very successful distributorship, Maxwell Optical Industries, representing Nikon, Tamron, Lowepro and many other brands.
We chat about his recent English Cathedrals project, plus his Sydney Locked Down portfolio, both of which are soon to be available in print.
As we spoke of cities in lockdown due to the SARS-COV-2 pandemic, John mentioned the work of UK photographer, Giles Christopher. Giles has produced a similarly impressive, if somewhat spooky, series of images of London during it’s quiet moments in March and April of 2020.

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.
