Episode 544 – What a time to be alive

This week, we talk about the Steve McCurry exhibition, Icons, which is coming to Sydney in April.
However, you have to go on a waitlist for tickets. Get on the list here.

Paul Sutton told us about the camera-shaped camera museum outside of Perth, Western Australia.
He also mentioned a good free photo editor for the casual photographer…. Fastone Image Viewer.
He also passed comment on the work of Anne Geddes, which set Glynn and I off on a discussion of trends in photography,
which prompted Glynn to mention his friend, Kirsten Cook who also does great baby photography,
and finally a story about how photographs taken by the U2 spy planes are shedding new light in archaeological circles.

Glynn told us about the cool project that Sony has launched, where YOU get to control a camera which is hanging off a satellite orbiting the Earth, and take your very own images of our planetary home!!
It was bound to happen. We now have a photo competition to see who “takes” the best images… humans, or AI generators.
Continuing on with the AI theme, how about a camera which generates images by describing what it sees to an AI image generator?
Then there’s the story about a couple who was asked to clean out a storage shed. Inside, they found over 2000 cameras and lenses!

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.
