Shutters Inc – episode 205

Filed under: alpha 850,D700,focus modes,Nikon,Podcast,Shutters Inc,Sony,Sydney meetup — Bruce Williams @ 12:00

This week, Carl Hemmings wrote back about the 51 (not 52!) focus points on the Nikon DSLR’s.

Last weekend’s Sydney meetup #25 (Hell on Wheels) was a great success. The thing that really struck me (which I shall file away for future reference) was the need to be really aware of placement when using flash to supplement an ‘apparent’ light source within the frame (in this case, a campfire).

And I’m keen to hear from those of you with 10-stop ND filters. Do you ever notice a colour shift in the final images? I am, and I don’t know if it’s a defective filter, a (not so) cheap-and-nasty filter, or if this is the way 10-stop filters are in general.

Richard Annable wants your help

Hi guys,
Richard Annable (yes, he of “crap crap giggle giggle” fame) has over the last 12 months thrown himself 110% into his professional photography career.
And now he wants a new camera.
Trouble is, he hasn’t got the ransom money that Nikon requires of him.
So, he’s set up a website called helprichardbuyad700 and he’s asking for anyone who cares enough to just make a small donation to his cause.
What do you get out of it?
Not much.
Just a warm fuzzy feeling knowing you helped a guy to get better images.
Check out his blog on the site, too.
Richard is not seeking to get rich off this scheme. He has assured me that once the target is reached, he will close off the donations button.
He just REALLY wants a Nikon D700.
So, if you’ve got a few bucks lying around in your PayPal account doin’ nothin’, and you’re feeling the Christmas spirit…
Go to it.
Richard will be most thankful.

Shutters Inc – episode 114

Surprise!!
We’re back!
After some catching-up chit-chat, Shelton goes on to talk about
the new Sony a900,
Canon EOS 5D Mark II,
the Nikon D700 (which he’s about to get, naturally!),
and some more about off-camera flash.
Remember to learn those formulae, folks!

Guide number divided by f-stop equals distance, and
Guide number divided by distance equals f-stop.

And apologies up front for the “squawks” in Shelton’s audio… had some bandwidth issues while we were recording.
